Expertise exchange
To encourage schools to contribute as well as receive support and to enable schools with limited budgets to engage in school-to-school support, we develop a cash-less, exchange of expertise based on ‘credits’.

Schools may choose to draw down more support than they wish to provide and vice versa, depending on circumstances. At the end of the academic year, we would settle up the difference by invoicing / paying schools (Please see practical arrangements below).
Schools may wish to operate as a stand-alone or as part of a trust, federation or MAT.
At risk, RI and category schools
If funding is available to support a school then we could us this to buy appropriate credits for the school and broker the type of support they require through the alliance.

Benefits
Management costs
Teaching School Alliances incur costs from operating the school-to-school support system, from recruitment, training, brokerage, QA work etc. For the academic year 2016-17 Dartmoor TSA will use its Collaborative Grant from the NCTL to cover these costs. Our aim is to incentivise use and create buy-in to the system. From 2017-18 onwards we are likely to introduce a management cost to cover our costs.
Non-Alliance Members
Schools from outside the alliance could access the support available through the directory of expertise and would simply be charged the rates above in cash and invoiced accordingly.

If funding is available to support a school then we could us this to buy appropriate credits for the school and broker the type of support they require through the alliance.
Practical arrangements
- Dartmoor TSA develops and maintains a Directory of Expertise that identifies support that is available
- All requests for support would be through Dartmoor TSA as broker
- Schools providing support would be required to complete a simple Note of Visit (purpose, intended outcomes, actions undertaken, evaluation) that would then be sent to Dartmoor TSA to provide evidence, evaluation and confirmation of support given and received
- Dartmoor TSA would maintain an ‘Account’ for each school which they could access and monitor their balance.
- At the end of each academic year, if schools have a negative credit score (i.e. they have received more than provided) they would be invoiced for the monetary equivalent. If schools have a positive credit score they would be paid the monetary equivalent.
- Schools wanting to participate in the Expertise Exchange would sign a Terms and Conditions agreement.
Benefits
- Encourages buy-in to school improvement programme
- Incentives sharing of expertise
- Consistent with co-operative values of self-help and equity
- Ensures that expertise is deployed to support system improvement
- Provides a viable alternative for schools with limited budgets

Directory of expertise
We are currently compiling a directory of expertise, which will provide an overview of the people in our Alliance who can offer support and guidance in all areas of school leadership.
Performance data services
We are delighted to be able to work with Jon Lunn (Director of Performance for the Ted Wragg Trust) who offers expertise in the area of performance data. Jon provides the Alliance with comparative performance data that enables us to identify strengths and areas for development. Jon is also available to schools for data reviews
Jon Lunn | Director of Performance for the Ted Wragg Trust

I was appointed to Head of ICT Faculty at Teignmouth Community School in 2000 after working in Hampshire for 9 years. I was appointed to Assistant Principal in 2004 with responsibility for School Performance/Data. In 2012 I achieved Specialist Leader of Education for Data Leadership working with the South West Teaching School Alliance. This role has enabled me to work with many school leadership teams in a variety of data/school performance ways. In 2013 Teignmouth Community School became a Multi Academy Trust with Inverteign Primary School operating as a through school. In the September of that year I was appointed to Vice Principal of the through school with responsibility for School, Staff and Student performance. In my spare time I enjoy walking along the wonderful beaches of Devon with my family and our dog. I am an avid Chiefs supporter and can still be seen running around a hockey pitch like a headless chicken every Saturday for ISCA hockey club.
